GISBORNE, April 16,
The Inspector of Health, Mr Holder, lias been notified of an outbreak ol dysentery amongst the Maoris in tho "Waiapu District. This is the result, it is believed, of the disease being brought from the Ngaluiawahia district, where recently a big Hui was held.' The first victim in Waiapu was Makar in i Ngata, the son of Sir Apiinna Ngata M.P., who succumbed last week. Two other cases are now reported in the district. They are stated to be of a similar nature to that of deceased, one of clio patients being Lady Ngata, who worn out by the terrible trial of nursing her late son to the end, also became afflicted and she now lies at her home at Waiomatatini in a critical state.
