LATE LOCALS.

“As a rule, Chinese are kind to animals, hut in this case a horse was being worked while it was quite unfit,” said Mr A. J. Mazengarb in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, when appearing for Kwoug, a Chinese, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of cruelly ill-treating a horse by driving it when in an unfit state. Evidence showed that the horse was suffering from an injury to one of its legs, and had subsequently to be destroyed. The Magistrate (Mr K. Page), said that he must enter a conviction and ordered Kwong to pay Court costs, ,C2 15s.
