Mayor—Mr Greenslade (unopposed)
Council—Eleven for nine seats. Power Hoard—Seven for three seats Hospital Board—Six for four seats
The Power Board hydro supply scheme of £118,09!) is polling to-day. There is no rush to the booths vet.
A NEAR ESCAPE
MAI MATE, April 17,
A level crossing accident was narrowly averted when the 9.55 a.m. goods train rail into a car driven by Mrs P. J. Foley at Morven Crossing. Mrs Foley saw the train at the last minute and had hall turned the car from the line, when the engine struck the rear or the car completing the trim. The car was somewhat battered at the rear, but the occupants Mrs Foley and an infant wore unhurt.
CHASED BY BULL
AY AIM ATE, April 17.
A youth Myles McDonald was chased by a bull and hailed up against a barbed wire fence. When rescued .by liis father the lad was bruised and torn about the back, but whether by the bull or the barbed wire is not known, but lie is progressive favourably.
THEFT CHARGE
ASHBURTON, April 17
At the Police Court. Terrence James Rose, aged 65, was charged with stealing £2. He was fined £lO, in default a month and ordered to refund 7s fid lound in his possession and pay 60s expenses.
CHINESE CHARGED
AUCKLAND; April' 17
Albert Hong Duk, aged 29, a Chinese clerk, was remanded till April 24th on a charge of obtaining £SO from Sin Son Young hv falsely representing lie required £7O to pay to the collector of customs to obtain permission for Young to remain in New Zealand, lor four years. The police asked for a substantial bail, stating; “Duk is a pretty tricky gentleman, and we’ve boon looking for him for some time.” He adopted a system of taking down other Chinese and other charges are pending. Ho was hailed in one surety of £2OO and a personal surety of £2OO.
DEAD BODY FOUND
NAPIER, April 17
The dead body of a man was found on a ,sheep station this morning. The man apparently was a swagger and had been dead for several months.
WOMAN INJURED
NAPIER, April 17
Mrs Joseph Sheehan was injured in her arm and leg by an explosion in a cooking range, the front of which was blown out. It is suspected there was dynamite in the coal.
