CHILD’S DEATH,

KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR

DUNEDIN, April 15

Tile inquest was concluded this afternoon on Elizabeth Marjorie Dcntonn, a little girl two and a half years of age, who was knocked down and fatally injured by a motor car last week. Mr J. R. Batholomew, S.M., sat as coroner. After evidence had been taken, the Coroner said the affair was one of pure misadventure, and no blame could be attached to the driver of the car. King Street was a busy one, and children of tender years should not be allowed to play about on it unattended. The verdict would bo that death was due to cerebral haemorrhage caused by being accidentally knocked down by a car on April 11th.

LOCO FIREMAN’S DEATH

INQUEST ON FLOOD FATALITY

DUNEDIN, April 15

Details concerning the death of Chares Roy Tuck, locomotive fireman, who lost his life as the result of a railway mishap on the Otago Central line during heavy rain, on March 19th. were given this morning by the witnesses who came forward in the adjourned inquest held before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. The Coroner stated that every care seemed to have been taken, and the crew of the train had proceeded with all due circumspection. Absolute security could not be guaranteed, and all that could be done was to take reasonable precautions. He was satisfied that this had been done. The journey might have been safer in daylight, for some indication of the danger spot might have been given. The occurrenee was purely accidental, and lie could only find that the deceased met his death through being crushed under an engine which had accidentally overturned through tne track collapsing at Salisbury on March 19th.

ANOTHER INQUEST. DUNEDIN, April 15

The adjourned inquest on Robert Olsen, who died in Dunedin Hospital as the result of injuries received through falling down a stairway on April Ist. was concluded this morning before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M..

who said that all . the circumstances pointed to an unfortunate accident. He could only say that death was due to cerebral haemorrhage, caused by an accidental fall.
