TO BE SUSPENDED

WELLINGTON, April 16,

AVhen Palmerston North railway deviation was proposed in 1924, the expenditure was suggested because traffic developments at that point indicated that it would double in twelve and ahalf years Subsequent expense has shown that this expectation’ has not been fulfilled and that the crucial fact coupled with financial considerations has determined the Government in deciding to suspend the work.

The above statement was made by Sir Joseph Ward to-day.
