Regarding the orders for totalisators, an official of the Graham Amplion Ooyi says that the lotalisator of the type accepted from the firm is not yet iri existence. The tender was accepted upon drawings, plans, and tions. He claimed that electrical oper-. at ion made it more simple and more reliable than the Australian type of totalisator. This new typo would issue a printed ticket containing the date, the amount of the bet, the horse’s numl her, and the race number on the mere pressing of a button. He claimed that it would be entirely fool-proof, and that it could be operated by a small staff of mechanics and clerks.
, The “Morning Post’s” turf .exipert says: Those who have followed the trend of events are not; sjjrprjs«Ldj:t.ha.tL tnat type of totalisator which has been’ successfully used in Australia was not' accepted, for reasons, which have not yet been explained. The Board did not favour the electrical type of machine invented by Sir H. Julius (son of Archbishop Julius of New Zealand, and now of Sydney). The “Post’s” critic adds that the proposed machine has .not yet been" tested, but it must be assumed that the Board has secured a model tha,t --at is likely to survive a heavy test. The “Daily Telegraph’’ says: “A! lightning automatic totalisator, the invention of Mr Ward, an Australian, has been installed at Victoria Part racecourse, Sydney.
