.MEETING AT WEI lEKA
The members of the No. 12 District Highways Council toured the southern roads on AYednesday, and held a meeting in the evening at the Kox Glacier hostel. There were present; Mr T. A. Johnston t District Engineer), and County representatives. Messrs Powell t Ituller), Clayton (Inatigaliua). Higgins (Grey) and Evans (Westland). After disposing of the formal business, the meeting proceeded to consider the applications for additional secondary highways in No. 12 District. The following were agreed to, and it was resolved to recommend same lor the favourable consideration of the Highways Hoard at AA’ellington : Bci.i.kh County. Tauranga River Board, 9 miles GO chains. GENERAL
Air Clayton moved that all roads carrying heavy traffic as defined by the Public AVor.ks Act, lie declared secondary : highways. Air Evans seconded. Carried.
Air Evans moved that in view of the importance, for the complete opening of tin* Welieka road, the Department he urged to authorise the construction of Docberty Creek and Oemoeroa Creek bridges as soon as possible. Air Powell seconded. Carried.
Air Clayton urged that a special subsidy be granted lor Alaruia road and jt was resolved to. recpyiineiid the request. 'if Onj the motion of Air Higgins secby Air Clayton, a resolution was recorded thanking the Highways Board for file consideration 'extended to the District since the inception of the highways! system. , Traffic control was discussed, the Chairman considering that two inspectors should be appointed for the district, one for the two northern Counties and one Tor the. two., Southern Counties. This was approved as a recommendation to the Board. Air Clayton congratulated the District Engineer on the condition ol the highways passed over, and Air Evans thanked the District Engineer for convening the meeting in Westland, and the opportunity to inspect the roads. The members of the Council returned last evening.
