SEVERE FROSTS IN CALIFORNIA

DAMAGE TO FRUIT CROPS

NEW YORK. April 10.

News from San Francisco states that continued frosts over most of California are'believed to have added iurtber damage to fruit crops. To-day, Agricultural authorities refused to place a definite estimate on the damage.

Predictions indicate that s me moderation might be expected in Southeri and Central California to-night.

ENORMOUS DAMAGE. NEW. YORK. April 10. The damage' to fruits was estimated at as high as fifty million dollars todav ny E. E. Kaufman (chief of Federal State crop reporting service). He said he expected the yield of fruit and mils which 'brought one hundred million dollars to producers last year would be cut in half by the severe weather. Ernst damage t" crops in Yuba. Sutter and Butte Counties alone aggregated t m million dollars.

AN APPOINTMENT. (Received tin’s day at 8.30. a.m.) WASHINGTON. April 10. The nnpnintmcnt of Mr Da-ves a Ambassador to Britain was announced at the White House to-day. WASHINGTON. April 10. The State Department received word that General Dawes was acceptable to the British Government. The appointment, which is subject to Senatorial confirmation, is well received in diplomatic circles. General Dawes sails for England in June.
