A strenuous attack on protessional sport was .made before the National Council of Education by L. D. Franklilt, of'Melbourne. The speaker showed how the influence of English Public .School sports had been encouraged to domestic school life in Australia. He believed education should lie extended to give power of strength, selfcontrol and endurance of body, mind

and spirit. He condemned the sort of . sport carried on for money and deplored engaging in sport for consideration of advertising or self glorification. It was most important it bdvs win Olympic championships, but it is highly impt'i'P'iit that boys .should receive the right kind of physical training. Private schools- in Australia were modelled after the British system, which contributed to building the real character of manhood.
