WHO WON THE WAR ?

FOCTI’S OPINION

(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

LONDON, April 0

The question of “AYlio won the war?’ is answered by Colonel Lionel Janies, C. 8., in an article in the “Evening Standard.”

Colonel Janies, who entered the Army in 1885, served in the South African War and in the European War. In his article, Colonel James says: At the beginning of August, 1918, the French Army was almost completely exhausted as a fighting force. Ihe Americans were a vigorous rabble. Ibe British Army was the only force that, was a real fighting instrument. Marshal Koch, at bis first meeting with Lord Haig, after the Armistice, said: “My dear Marshal, your wonderful army lias saved France—saved us all ! Without you we were beaten. A few days later (says Colonel Janus), when the details were better known, Marshal Each, at the luncheon table at General Headquarters, said: “The battles of your British Army will live for all time as a classic as to bow «rent military operations should be conducted. Nothing lias ever been seen like it in the history of all wars.”
