Eire destroyed the AVhenuakura cheese and butter factory last week. The value of the building and plant was stated to he about €15,000. Tt is covered by insurance.
Luckily, only the produce nianufac tured that dav was in the building.
A strong southerly wind and a low water pressure rendered 'futile all the efforts made to confine the flames to the packing room. The Pa tea Eire Brigade attended, although the factory was some miles beyond its district, and with the assistance of 'factory hand and settlers made a great fight, but by 9 p.m. the factory was razed and a total loss.
The milk supply will he diverted to neighbouring factories temporarily. Although the season has almost finished the milk supply had been keeping up remarkably well.
