N. Z. R. U. ARRANGE A IENTS FOR TOURS. WELLINGTON, April 3. A meeting of the Alanagement Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held to-night. Air S. S. Dean presiding. The Wellington and Canterbury Unions wrote protesting against the early closing of nominations for New Zealand selectors. Roth Unions stated that they would not have chosen their, own selectors by April 3rd. The chairman explained that the selectors would be appointed on April 2-ltli. A trial match lias been arranged for June 3rd. and it was necessary to appoint tlie New Zealand Selection Committee in time for this. The New South AVaies Union submitted the following itinerary of the New Zealand team’s tour of Australia: .June 21st: Leave Wellington, per s.s. Alaheno; June 29th: v. New South Wales at Sydney; July 3rd: v. Newcastle; July 6th: v. Australia (lest) at, Sydney; July 10th. v. New South AVaies at Sydney; July 13th: v. Victoria at Alelhourne; July 17th: v. North-West New England and Clarence River, at South Grafton, Armidale or Y'nlcha; July 20th: v. Australia (Test . at Brisbane; July 24th: v. Queensland, -t Brisbane; July 27th: v. Australia (Test) at Sydney; August 2nd: Leave Sydney lor Auckland. Tlie following cable was received from the English Rugby Union: “When arranging itinerary for tour, team will leave London second week in April, and must arrive London second week in October, via Panama or Suez. Two mutches per week, with one week rest before each Test.”
A sub-committee consisting of Messrs S. S. Dean, T. A. Fletcher, oriel K. AVylie, was set up to consult with the New South Wales Union, and draw up the itinerary of the tour.
The secretary of the English Union Air S. F. Cooper) wrote as folhws: “You will he interested to learn that my committee has appointed Air James Baxter, a past president of the Rugby Football Union, as manager of tlie team to visit New Zealand in 1930. Every effort is being made to send a good team, blit it is too early to give any impression of its .strength.”
