I THE DEATH ROLL Australian Press Assn.—United Service HOBART, April V It is now believed that eight men were killed in to-day’s dam disaster, including the following:— , W. Beamish, Assistant Manager at the Rrisise tin mines. G. Good. J. Brodley. J. Denshey. A. Jaffary. H. McCormaeh. Mr Beamish appears to have sacrificed his life in an endeavour to save others. parts of the town of Derby were submerged by the water. The marvel is that the toll ol lile has not been larger. DEATH ROLL INCREASING. (Received this day at 9. a.m.) HOBART, April 6. The breaking of Cascade Dam caused a greater disaster than was at first feared. The total now numbers twenty, (fourteen at Briseas mine and six drowned in a motor-ear. Cascade river lias made a new course one hundred yards wide. The dead include a family of five who were having tea when a wall of water struck the bouse and carried it and tbc> occupants away. > The wall of water is estimated to have* been between fifty and one hundred feet high. Every bridge surrounding the township Inis been washed away, aiul many cattle were drowned.
