April 3 riie '•‘Daily Telegraph's” naval correspondent, in summing up the * fleet.of the United States Navy estimates during the next fiscal year, say.-: The American Navy will equal the British Navy in capital ships. It will he superior to it in the number of the big guns. It will he immensely superior in destroyers, in .submarines, and in aircraft, and will lie inferior only in its cruisers. When the new construct ion is completed, however, the American Navy will gain a. pronounced lead in the number of its large modern ocean-going cruisers. The correspondent adds:--“The* United States is following a farsighted policy in the matter of air power. Compared with her figures, our air fleet arm dwindles almost to insignificn nee.” ’The .correspondent concludes: — “America’s sea power, as represented by ships and men, is increasing piaeticall.v at- the same rate as the British sea power is declining.”
