REPORT -OF COMMISSION
THOROUGH SURVEY URGED
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).
(Received this day at ID a.m.) LONDON, April I
An immediate thorough survey of London’s vast underground workings of every description to prevent a repetition of the great explosion tlml shook Bloomsbury and Holborn like an earthquake in Christmas week, doing half a million of damage, is the outstanding recommendation <fl the Commission of Inquiry. It is understood the Coiflmission decided that gas was responsible for the explosion. but it has not fixed the liability, consequently a great legal fight expected to settle who shall pay. The damage to streets and sewers alone amounted to seventy thousand and compensation to shopkeepers and tenants. The Commission urged more rigid inspection of the gas. electric ami 'post office's underground services, and workmen engaged in tunnel work; also a strict adherence io the safety regulations. Although repairs have been proceeding day and night for three months, all the streets will not l-e rcadv for traffic for another month.
