AUTUMN MEETING

A VERY ENJOYABLE GATHERING

The'Autumn Meeting of the West Innd Pacing Club was held yesterday afternoon under absolutely perfect conditions, the day being glorious!., fine and calm and quite warm. The course and surroundings were in capital order, there were good fields and tbe racing was of an interesting nature, the finish for the High Weight Handicap being a specially fine one. The attendance was satisfactory, showing a considerable improvement on last year when the day was wet. Specula tion was fairly good, the sum of £0099 being handled for the day as against £4410 last year and £0930 in 1927. The Club’s officials were all at their posts and everything ran smoothly, the races being run ofF well to time and no untoward incident marred the afternoon’s sport. The Municipal Hand was present and played an enjoyable musical programme. The general appoint ments and appearance of the course were the subject of general commendation and approval.' From the start the favourite went a way with a ttvo-length lead, which was maintained till the straight waentered, where Pound Note made a fast, run and managed to get up in time to beat the favourite by three parts of a length.
