A DAILY MESSAGE

| WHILE YOU SLEEP How is it, good citizen, that you can sleep so securely in your bed to-night ? It is because the faithful policeman treads his beat. How is it that you, Mr Business Man, can rest to-night so peacefully? What of your warehouse—your factory —your store? How can you so safely leave them while you sleep? It is because the watchman is on •guard, and the fireman waits for Ins call. And you, traveller, out on the trackless waters, how sleep you so securely amid the perils of the deep? It is bcause there are men down below feeding the fires all night long, and because ono stands on the bridge, keeping lonely vigil over the dark waters. And you, who slumber as you travel on “the iron horse” across bridges, through tunnels, by rivers, and ovei mountains? How comes it that you sleep so securely ? It is because, somewhere ahead of you, there is a lion-hearted, steelnerved man, whose hand is on the throttle, and with him a fireman, who feeds the fires and scans the track. In the engine-rooms of the world there are men watching dynamos, tending boilers, regulating steam gauges, control ling engines, listening to telegraphs, and responding to telephones, that the world may sleep in peace. Let us always remember how much our safety and prosperity depend on the other fellow. ' —M. PRESTON STANLEY.
