DAIRYMEN CONFER
RESOLUTIONS PASSED.
v ßy Telegraph—Per Press Association.).
PAHIATUA, March 14
A large and representative meeting of the Bush Dairy Coy’s Association yesterday was addressed by Mr Singleton (Director of the Dairy Division). A lengthy discussion ensued regarding the recently gazetted amendments to the dairy regulations affecting a standardised brand of cheese. The feeling was expressed by some sections, that the Department was too hasty in bringing in drastic regulations without first placing the proposals before the industry. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Singleton and the meeting unanimously recorded a protest against tire publication by members of the Exporters Association of strictures upon the quality of butter and cheese exported from New Zealand to Great Britain.
In view of the fact that reports from selling houses at Home almost invariably indicate that the quality of both butter and cheese are, being fully maintained, the meeting was of opinion that certain criticism indulged in and published throughout the Dominion, was not in accordance with fact, and calculated to do great injury to the industry. A resolution was also passed that the meeting was firmly of the opinion that the interests of the daify industry call for frequent changes in the personnel of dairy instructors, and that it be a recommendation to the Department, that in future its district officers lie not detailed for service for practically the whole of their lifetime, in one district.
