TRENTHAAI, March 13,

The final stage of the Army championship is being fired to-day in good weather. At the conclusion the King’s fifty will be known. This evening night firing with machine guns takes place. Verey lights are discharged into the air at intervals, the practice being most spectacular. The firing is by movement from 600 to 1000 yards. One practice in the second stage of the Army championship calls for sound physical condition in addition to shooting ability. Competitors start at 600 yards, run to 500 and fire tw r o shots in 45 seconds, also at 400 and 300 and 200 and 100. Competitors kneel at 200 and tand at 100. Maximum points are 50. The test is most exacting and high scoring is not to be looked for.

Machine guns teams match will he fired during the day for the Stafford Challenge Shield which was presented by townspeople to the New Zealand Ride Brigade to commemorate the kindly feeling towards those New Zealanders who were stationed at Brockton camp during the Great War. General Young (Commanding Officer) inspected the camp to-day witnessing the demonstration of working mechanism in the new battle practice ground.

Cadet match, 200 yards, srtap-shoot-ing; 200 yards rapid fire: —40s, J. Lusty (Marlborough) 64 ;30s, B. Tusker (Wellington), 63 j 20s, F. Jane (Hawke’-s Bay) 60. Fifty-one with scores from sl> clown to 51 divide £l6.
