The defendant pleaded not guilty. Smith alleged the sheep were turned out on a block adjoining Hide's property, and when mustered in August, ninety were missing. In September. Smith gave notice to Hilie t,o muster, hut this was not done till November. The accused reported that lie had 28 of Smith’s sheep in his possession. Four siieep claimed by Hilie were discovered to have Hilie s earmark in the left ear. and an obliterated Tynestield earmark on the right ear. Smith bought sheep from 'Pynofield. A small portion of the Tynefielcl mark remained. The four sheep were taken possession of by the police The case will last some time, there being a good many witnesses to ho called.
