Cabinet decided to-day not to alter for the present season, the existing wheat and flour duties (which are on the sliding scale) but to have lull examination before next season’s operations of the questions of a reduction in the duties on wheat and flour, and a guarantee of prices to the growers. In making this announcement, tin* Prime .Minister said that the general opinion of the Government was tnal reasonable protection to the wheat am’ the flour interests in tin* country was most desirable, and that at present t.ho duties upon both .wheat anil Ho»;.and the guarantee price were, too high.
