RIFLE SHOOTING.
armv association meeting. (By Telegraph—Press Association). TRENTHAM, March 12. The New Zealand Army Association meeting opened this morning. 'Hie weather was fine with a light breeze. Brigadier Sinclair Burgess, Cliici oi the General Staff addressed the competitors and stated that in the British Army, machine gun jmwer had been douljled, l>oth in mounted and infantry, but be wished to disabuse their minds of the impression that the rifle was not now considered so effective a weapon. Burgess added that the rifle would be as important in futuro wars as in the past, and of service where Vickers guns and light automatics were unable to play an effective part in the operations. T|ie first stages of the Army and Cadet Championships is in progress. Machine gun competitions take place this afternoon.
