BIG HOTEL FIRE
AT HONG KONG. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). HONG KONG, March 11. A distastrous firo at Hong Kong’,s King Edward Hotel, in tlic early hours of the morning, resulted in a heavy loss of life. It is believed that nine Europeans perished including Mr William Woods,, representing Woods Great Peppermint Cure. The others were British, French and Americans, but Ihe actual numbers, including Chinese is unknown. The ruins are now being raked for bodies. A top-floor eye-witness stated the fire broke out with alarming rapidity the inmates being trapped in the upstoreys, being unable to reach the tire escapes. Valuable work was performed by tlu* men from British warships. There were thrilling scenes as people leaped from the inferno from the fourth and fifth floors into sheets. Several missed, crashing to the roadway. 'Those including General Chang MingsbUj are seriously injured. It is stated that Mr Woods had been in b.-d lor a week suffering from a. chill. His remains have just been found,
