IDLES MANY SHIPS
MELBOURNE, March 8
Owing to the coal hold-up in New South Wales (where over 10,000 miners were dismissed), all the crews of the collier steamers have been paid off here. The vessels will then lay up indefinitely. About a hundred of the cblliers which remain in commision will join the idle fleet within two week's.
COAL OWNERS’ ATTITUDE
(Received this day at 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 9.
There as a dramatic turn in the coal mining crisis when McDonald (Chairman of the Northern Collieries Assn) in a statemnt made it clear that the owners will not further negotiate with the leaders of the men. He said: “So far as 1 am concerned, I am not prepared to go through the hooks off the owners. I will haVd nothing more to do with the men or their leaders.”
