GERMANY FROZEN

FARMERS HELD UP

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

LONDON, March 8

“The Times’s” Berlin corresrpndent states: Frost has so seriously delayed agricultural activities throughout Germany, so that preparations are being made on many farms and estates to work day and night. For the night work, tractors fitted with powerful headlights will be used. Ihe weather is milder, but there is no sign of the long-delayed thaw, which, when it comes, will take some time to melt the accumulated masses of snow, especially as the lower layer has hardened to ice. Even m the streets of Berlin, this layer has to be chipped away with picks and special tools.
