MEET SUCCESS LIKE A GENTLEMAN. 1 ukmeve that it is harder to meet success like a gentleman than it is to meet failure like a man and this opinion is based upon observation. Failure has made many a man, but success has unmade many more. Comparatively few men carry success successfully, though many cany failure bravely, which is but another way of saying that succes is harder to bear than failure. Success reveals a man’s sipirtual mettle even more surely than failure. Many a successful man hastens to kick away the ladder which carried him upwards, by cutting adrift from old friends and associations. This is the first sign that success is bad folium. Mn ny a successful man forgets to give the other fellow, who is climinng, a pull up, which is the second sign that success is going, to be his failure. Many a successful man does not like to be reminded of the day when he was down on the dead level with you and me; that’s the third sign that he is not meeting success like a gentleman. Many a successful man loses ins common touch, forgets the common cause, and mistakes the power of his money for the magic of his own personality. A man who can meet success like a gentleman is never so offensively prosperous as to give gain to those on whom the shadow of want has fallen. No, and lie never makes an ostentatious display of his wealth or possessions either, for the man who meets success like a gentleman is first of all truly a man. "What a pity it is that there are uot more successful gentlemen! —M. PRESTON STANLEY.
