The Judge said Batchelor’s example j would have a most serious effect on the reputation of those carrying on I their business in a perfectly honour- | able way. It would bring on these j trustworthy and honourable people unj deserved suspicion and distrust. Perj sons least able to loose their money were the most easy victims. It was time that as a result of the discovery of the fact the prisoner would be struck off the roll of the most honourable profession and one to which he ought never to have belonged. When the man entered upon the practice of such an honourable and learned profession lie ought to have known better than to be guilty of fraud. MAN INJURED. TAUMARANUI, March 8. A serious accident occurred in the -Mangapara tunnel on the Stratford main trunk line at six o’clock this morning. A fall of papa occurred in the face off the tunnel where Charles Mclntosh was working, with the result that he was seriously injured, his skull being fractured and one rib broken. He was sent to the Taumaranui hospital. His relatives are believed to reside at Parnell. GIFT OF MOTH AEROPLANE. WELLINGTON, March 8. The proprietors of the “Evening Post’’ have offered the Wellington Aero Club the price of a light aeroplane. This was gratefully accepted. TRANSPORT BOARD. WELLINGTON, March 8. The constitution of the new Transport Boayd was discussed at a conference of the North' and South Island Motor Unions to-day. It was decided to ask that the constituion be amended to a Chairman to he appointed by the Government, one representative each for the North Island Motor Union, the South Island Motor Union, Counties Association, Municipal Association, New Zealand Master Carriers, Omnibus and Service Car Proprietors, Combined and Wholesale and Retail Motor Trade. A FURTHER RESOLUTION. WELLINGTON, March 8. The Motor Union further resolved it he a recommendation to the Minister that each of the different bodies who are to constitute the Advisory Board he entitled to nominate a Transport Commissioner. Strong recommendation is to he made to the Minister of motorists demand for a reduction in the heavy taxation on them. MAN SHOT IN BACK. CHRISTCHURCH, March 8.. As the result of a shooting affray in Green’s Road, Papanui, this morning, Frederick Richards, SG. a. labourer, was arrested and charged with attempting the murder of John Armstrong, aged 42. . . Armstrong is now in the hospital with a shot wound in the hack and pellets in the head, but is expected to recover. The parties are said to have been neighbours. FURTHER PA RIM CUL A RS. CHRISTCHURCH., March 8. The police allege that Armstrong was shot alter a quarrel, the cause of which is unknown. Neighbours heard jhe shot and rang for the police. Richiardson made an attempt to evade arrest. Armstrong, who now lives In the city, was visiting Richardson’s house in Papanui, when the affair occurred. The arrested man’s name is Richardson. ..
