BAY OF ISLANDS SEAT
FULL DISCUSSION IN PROSPECT. > Mr A. E. Davey, chairman of the United Political Party, has come north in connection with the Bay of Islands by-election campaign. Asked if it was the intention of the. United party to put a candidate in the field, Mr Davy said that the question was largely one for United party supporters within the Bay of Islands electorate. It was at the invitation of Bay of Islands supporters that he was going North. The matter would be fully discussed with them. Two excellent candidates had offered their services to Sir Joseph Ward, added Mr Davy. It will be remembered that there was no United candidate in the field at the general election in November. Mr H. M. Rush worth, who was declared elected and later unseated by reason of the Electoral Court’s finding qn January 28, voted with the United party on the crucial division in the House of Representatives, which swept the Reform Government out of office. Mr H. M. Rqshworth was the qnly member of the Country party with a seat when Parliament assembled in December.
