A REMARKABLE RECORD. WELLINGTON, March 1. The Prime Minister stated that good progress had been made with the work during the period December 10 to February 27, when loans authorised to 619 settlers and 598 workers 1 amounted to £1,235,765, this money being ready for applicants. Loans actually paid total £413,175 to 311 settlers and £358,975 to 409 workers. The new loan money added to the Department’s capital in the period was £1,166,850. Asked if any arrears of loan applications remain, Sir Joseph Ward replied that all applicants were informed that their applications would receive attention ii the valuations were made and there are no arrears. “To pay over £600,000 a month is a remarkable record,” addea Sir Joseph, “and must be an important factor to settlers and workers.”
