KANOWNA INQUIRY. (Australiau Press Association) MELBOURNE, March 5. Further evidence was given to-day by passengers, who each declared that the visibility' was good and that there was no fog when the Kanowna ran on the reef. One man said he saw a ship two .miles away, just before the Kanowna struck. The hearing was adjourned. LOSS OF KANOWNA. FINDING OF COURT. MELBOURNE. March 6. The Marine Court to-day found that the Captain of the steamer Kanowna had committed an error of judgment, and was responsible for the loss of the liner Kanowna. fie had not allowed a sufficient margin of safety, and he should have slowed down because ot the weather conditions prevailing. The Court commended Captain Newberry for skilful- control and lor the arrangements for the transhipment o*f the passengers. The Court am found that the lifeboats were in good condition at the date of the wreck. SAILING SHIP’S PLIGHT. PERTH, March 6. The liner Jervis , Bay :met the Finnish sailing .ship Grace HarmoT almost becalmed in the Bight, when the lattei w-as 150 days out from North Carolina. She was Hying a distress signal. A boat came alongside the Jervis Bay. and the mate said they were in a bad way for the want of stores. Those were supplied. The mate said that in two more days they would have been in a serious plight. No more information could be obtained concerning their experiences.
