NURSE’S DEATH

i ■ AI.LEGATIONS DISAITSSED. [by TELEGRAPH —'PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AVELTiINGTON, Alarch 4. Points raised at the 'inquest on Edith Alary Paynter, a nurse who died at the Alental Hospital at Porirua on 10th. February, were dealt with in a written judgment delivered to-day by Mr J. S. Barton, S.AL, who presided at the inquiry. Air Barton found that no negligence had been shown by Dr. Hayes (Aledical Superintendent) at the hospital or by members of the staff. At the conclusion of. the inquest on 22nd. February, the Coroner returned a verdict that Aliss Paynter die das the result of cerbral haemorrfiage, arising from a ruptured aneurism of the base of ths brain. To-day Air Barton,i in his judgment, said the evidence pointed with certainty and precision to the finding, and added that aneurism was-a congenital condition. After submitting u..e evidence to a' lengthy examination and review, he concluded: “In-the result therefore, I find. (1) Owing to lack of up to date facilities' and arrangements for sick nurses, Aliss Paynter was during her illness left alone, a good deal ,and there is evidence that the food supplied to her at times lacked daintiness and tempting qualities; (2) that each of the other specific complaints! ,i.I definitely disproved; and (3) that during hei illness Aliss Paynter was treated with skill and kindness.”
