WISDEN’S ALMANACK
FIVE CRICKETERS Ob' THE YEAR. LONDON, March 2. “Wisden’s Almanack,” as “Cricketers of the last year,” publishes photographs of L. Ames, M. Leyland, J. C. White, G. Duckworth and Sam Staples, with White in the centre place. The editor comments:—“Not foi seventeen years has tbe reputation of English cricket stood so high. It. is not surprising, aftCr the deplorable post-war period, that the* triumphs o' our players in Australia have aroused such unprecedented enthusiasm. Their success is the more refreshing because the risk in taking Larwood and Geary Inis been convincingly justified. That the side should maintain its form and return with the finest record ever gained will devoutly he wished, even if it is not achieved. We must ho proud of the men who have so speedily and decisively determined the rubber.”
