11l tlio Legislative Assembly, the Crimes Act was amended to prescribe flogging for razor slashers. Labour members strongly opposed flogging.

A serious increase in crime throughout the State is indicated in the annual report of the Commissioner of Police (Mr Mitchell). During 1928 there were .3400 offences against property with violence and 11.19 b without violence, increases of 388 and 008 respectively. Offences against good order numbered 57,289, nd increase of 4.334. The Courts dealt with a total of 137.079 eases. Juvenile (.lienees showed a serious increase.
