DOMINION-MADE GOODS
PREFERENCE BY GOVERNMENT. WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. “AVherever it is practicable we will give instructions for the use of New Zealand-made goods for Govern mi ni requirements,” declared the Prini'-i Minister (the Rt. Hon Sir Joseph Ward), amidst applause, at the amnia! luncheon of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. “I recognise,” the Prime Minister added, “that we are in the habit of sending many orders by cable to other countries For which our people in New Zealand should have the opportunity of tendering. (Applause). It is a suicidal policy to adopt a dog in the manger attitude whore great ramifications of trade are concerned, whether retail or wholesale. These men in business should he given an opportunity to utilise their resources to provide goods for New Zealand from avenues they had placed open for the employment of labour.” Speaking at the morning session, the Minister of Industries and Commerce (tho Hon J. G. Cobbe), said he was greatly interested in the proposals before the conference for advertising New Zealand-made goods. “T feel sure.” be added, “tbe indifference of New Zealanders towards goods made in their own country must be due to ignorance of the range and quality of tho articles produced by our own manufacturers.”
