FIRE AT HOSPITAL

FUMIGATING LAMP EXPLODES. T^MARU, Feb. 27. A minor outbreak of fire occurred at tho Talbot Fever Hospital at Timaru at 10.45 to-night, the fumigating room, wjiicli is detached from the main building, being damaged, and its contents destroyed. The room contained a number of beds as well as a quanti.y of bedding equipment and clothes. Flames from the fumigating roam ignited a tent close by, which was in use as an auxiliary ward, hut at the first sign of the outbreak, those patients who were in the tent rye re removed to safety. Tlie blaze in the tent was extinguished by the hospital staff who formed themselves into a bucket brigade. In the meantime tl Timaru Fire Brigade arrived , and quickly extinguished the blaze in the fumigating room. The outbreak is thought to have been caused by the fumigating lamp, which had been placed on the floor of the room, exploding.
