At the Supreme Court yesterday be-i lore Justice Adams, Denis Costello "’as charged on the first indictment of having at various dates between April 8, 1928, anil August 22, committed tlielt of the following cheques which were rn his possession in his position as a clerk to the Grey County Council: £4, £2B 14s (xl, £lO7 19s del, L'4 Kis. LYo, £lO, £3O and an amount of £72 12s 3d. After hearing ' lengthy evidence the jury retired at 3.50 p.m. and returned at 4.35 p.m.* with a verdict of not guilty.
His Honour later con ferried with counsel on the question of proceeding with the two remaining indictments. The. Crown Prosecutor stated that he would not be in a position to say whether the charges would be proceeded with, until he received a reply to a wire he'had sent to the Crown Law Office.
