Society for the Prevention of Cruel t\ to Animals was held to-day, delegates from all over New Zealand being welcomed by the Mayor. An Auckland remit, urging the prohibition of vivisection was not carried, it being stared tliat vivisection was not being prac. t-isecl greatly, and that the existing legislation covered the requirements. It was decided that a resolution he forwarded to the Government in connection with the boneless veal traffic, more stringent,- regulations being held to he necessary. It was also resolved to approach the Societies with the object of having steer-riding and buckjumping contests prohibited, and that the Government be asked' 1 to legislate so that stock in transit be exposed to the least possible risk of injury. Other remits adopted were; That as delay in milking causes needless suffering to cows in milk at shows, those Agricultural and Pastoral Societies not having a clause 'in their schedules, bo urged to adopt a-uniform boor at which such animals he milked, say at 7a.in. : also that it be compulsory to prevent the growth of horns on cattle other than those used for stud purposes.
