MR BALDWIN’S EXCUSE.

LONDON, Fob. 27

Rt. Hon S. Baldwin, Prime Minister, amusingly referred to the Government's Irish loyalists’ surrender, on February 22nd in the House of Commons, in a speech at the AVorcesteisliire Association’s dinner, at which Mr Churchill was the principal guest. Mr Baldwin said he had learned very early that a Worcestershire man , could not bc : “druv.” Mr Churchill knew the same was true of Oxfordshire. He continued: “The other day we found ourselves side by side in 1C House of Commons, which was in a mood which recalled to us some of the peculiarities of the people amongst whom we had been brought up. 1 remembered the words of an old drover who was experiencing more than usual difficulty in getting pigs along the road to market—namely ‘a hard thing to drive when there are many of them is the pig!’ I whispered that to Mr Churchill and we surrendered.”
