BAND CONTEST
HYMN TEST. GREY SECOND. [hy tet.egrapii—PEß press ASSOCIATION.) WANGANUI, February 27. The judge’s comment on the Grey* mouth Band’s effort in the first A Grade test stated tlie opening movement was in keeping with what had preceded. the dramatic mood being entered into at once and. the Band excelling in tonal power, the time being most commendable, and all parts working well. Tlie flugel horn and sopranos’ entry was admirable, but some hesitancy was observable in the accompanying parts at times; not serious. however. The players responded well to the conductor, the general treatment being appealing. Here and there minor lip flaws marred the smoothness of rendition. The horn and sopranos played prettily in the solo parts, and the euphonium also excelled. The Band built up the crescendoes finely. The solo cornet and trombone were very fine, and the ending was full of fire. Another good performance. THE HYMN TEST.
