STATISTICIAN’S R KRORT. SYDNEY, February 27. The Commonwealth Statistician reveals that compared with December, 1928, there was a general increase during January in the cost of living in ail States, Western Australia heading the list with an increase of 9.7 per cent. The increased cost since 1914 is the greatest in New South Wales with (58.1 per cent. West Australia is lowest with 39s -Id per cent. -MEAT HOARD COSTS. SYDNEY; February 27. A report on the operations of the -Meat Hoard for the year ended June 30th tabled in Parliament showed a deficit ml' 1‘28,229 on the year’s operations. The Hoard, giving reasons lo> the deficit, said the average increase in cost of working since 191(5 was nearly 80 per cent. BRUTALLY ATTACKED. SYDNEY, February 27. Mister and Mistress Combs of Haberfield were brutally attacked by two thieves in their home last night. The men were ransacking the house when the occupants arrived. Jt is believed a life preserver was used in the attack which followed. The woman was badly cut about the face and the husband knocked to the ground and savagely kicked. The thieves decamped with a small amount of money.
