N.S.W. COAL PRICES
PROPOSAL FOR CUT. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, February 26. The Premier, Mr Bavin, has returned to. Sydney If rom the Canberra Coal Conference. He stated that the miners’ delegates have now agreed to submit the proposals for stabilising the industry to the combined unions, without any recommendation as to whether they should accept the one shilling per ton reduction proposed in wages, if chartered accountants, after an examination of the coal owners’ affairs, proved Mr Bavin’s figures relating to thp owners’ profits to be correct. Mr Bavin added: “It is quit? obvious that some of the opposition to our scheme for the reduction of tbe coal price is based on a misapprehension.” He sincerely hoped, with the Prime Minister, Mr Bruce, that the miners would see the wisdom of adopting t’io proposals without any delay. It is stated to-day in Sydney that thp Northern Colliery Owners’ Association will not withdraw their notices of dismissal to the 9000 miners, which expire on March 2nd.
Mr McDonald, the Association’s Chairman, declared that they were at the parting of the ways.
