Sir Berkeley -Moynihan, speaking, at the Authors’ Club, disclosed a war secret when he revealed that the Allies heard in the year 1916 that the Germans were going to use the plague as a lethal weapon. ITe said: “We actually recovered plague bacilli from the bombs that were dropped over the Fifth Army.” Sir B. Moynihan recalled that plague is spread by lleas, through rats. “Consequently,” he said, “we encouraged cats, we protected owls, and wo encouraged the gamekeepers to keep down rats to prevent the plague spreading.”
