A recent tabulation of all the motion picture products made by Carl Laemmle, president of Universal Pictures Corporation, since his start as a producer in 1909, revealed an almost incredible total. Since the Universal brand was inaugurated in 1912, Laemmle has presented 872 featurelength photoplays and 4070 short subjects, including the separate episodes of charter plays. Previous to that lie had presented several hundred subjects,' under the old Imp banner. The first photoplay he ever produced was “Hiawata,” which was made in the summer of 1909. Laemmle also holds the distinction of having produced the first feature-length production. It was “ Traffic in Souls,” directed by the late George Loan Tucker, made in the spring of 1913 with a cast including Jane Gail, Matt Moore, Ethel Grandin William Turner, Arthur Hunter and Laura Huntley.
