MT EGMONT TRAGEDY
CLIMBER KILLED BY ROCK. (By Telegraph—Press Association). STRATFORD, February 25. Arthur Ronald Aloss, aged 22, son of the Borough Electrical Engineer, Air A. E. Aloss, was killed on Alt. Egmont early yesterday morning Hy being struck by a boulder, which crashed down the mountain side. AVith a party of three others, Aloss left at midnight to climb to the summit. The journey was accomplished without incident until 3.15 a.m. when in the darkness the party heard a rock coming. The rest got clear but Aloss was struck on the head and fearfully injured. He died immediately. Ho was carried off the trail if or some distance below. A relief party was sent from the -t.onbiin House and .Stratford, including Dr Ahull. Difficulty was experienced getting the body down to the Mountain House and Stratford, includto negotiate difficult and dangerous paths.
Aloss was an experienced climbei and frequently ascended the mountain. An inquest is being held to-day.
