CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD.

The B-ard met at Christchurch on Friday last.

Appointments confirmed included: Dobson. Aliss P. J. Fletcher, assistant mistress; Mead, Air G. R. Alaxweii, sole teacher (transfer) ; St. Albans, Al i ss E. L. Cliestriuun, assistant, mistress.

Resignations accepted included: Cobden. Aliss F. E. Muir; Creymouth, Air O. W. Williams; Otira, Aliss E. Chesterman.

New Regulations—Taranaki Board forwarded copy of resolution protesting against the Department’s regulations, under which it was contended that the statutory rights of boards to hold their own records was being taken away.

District High School Fees —The Department advised that in future tlio district high school fees for paying pupils would - be 15s per term instead ol 10s per quarter, as at present. Temperance in Schools —The Department asked whether the board would agree to distribution of wall charts prepared by the New Zealand Alliance, it was resolved to defer consideration pending inspection of the chart. AGRICULTURE. The Agriculture Committee reported tin* results of the West Coast A. P. and I. Association’s Shield (ompetitioi, as follows: Ngahere and R'u Ru, equal. 237 points, 1; Runangn and Cronadun equal 226 points, 2; Alawheraiti. points, 3. ’Hurdley Shield Competition.—Fairlio 104 points, 1; Pareora West. 103 points. 2; Ikawai, 1024 points, 3; Arowlicnua. It,- points, 4. It was recommended that congratulatory letters be written to the successful schools and that the usual prizes be awarded.

Hon H. L. Alieliel was reappointed to represent the Board on the Hokitika High School Board.
