DELAY IN WIRELESS MESSAGE

WELLINGTON. Feb. 22,

Tlte Premier announces he has received a cablegram from Captain Ferris of the steamer Port, Denison last evening reporting the death of Sir Charles Skerrett. The cable was dated 13th February, to be despatched by radio to Chatham Island via radio per s.s. Ruahine. Apparently the delay in the cable reaching here has been caused by the time taken by the Ruahine getting into wireless touch with the Chathams.

Sir Joseph Ward says ho gives the information to the press in 'fairness to Captain Ferris, who evidently sent the cable shortly after the death of Sir Charles Skerrett.

THE CONDOLENCE MESSAGE ANSWERED. WELLINGTON, Feb. 22,

The Premier has received the following from Miss Skerrett:—“l desire to tender, for myself and relatives, our sincere thanks to you, Mr Holland and the Parliamentary Labour Party for messages of sympathy.”

John Piercy, aged 60, residing at London Street, Richmond, who was picked up unconscious at the intersection of Dean and Madras Streets on Thursday evening died in the hospital. It is alleged that he was knocked down by a cycle ridden by a vouth.
