(Australian Press Association) INDUSTRTAL CONFERENCE. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 22. The utmost secrecy was preserved at to-day’s deliberation of the Peace-ni-Industry Conference. It is understood the employers delegates rejected the Labour delegates demands (cabled in the morning) ,claiming that they were not authorised to deal with disputes in being, hut to seek a basis of industrial relationship for the future between employers and employees. Labour delegates held a caucus and decided to await 'further instructions from the Labour Council meeting at Sydney to-night. The Conference then adjourned. A-n APPOINTMENT. ‘ BRISBANE, February 22. Mr AY. E. Bush, of Auckland, was to-night appointed Engineer of Greater Brisbane Council’s Water Supply and Sewerage Department.
ATTACK ON VOLUNTEERS. (Received this dnv at 10.30. a.m.) SYDNEY, February 22.
A party of twenty men committed a brutal attack upon three volunteers at the timber works. Two were admitted to the hospital. The attackers were driven to the scene of the assault in a motor lorry.
PRISON CAMP SCHEME. SYDNEY, February 22
The .Minister of Justice, Air Lee, is considering a scheme for the establishment of prison camps ifor carrying out roadwork in the State by utilising prison labour. It is thought to relieve the distress of prisoner’s families, who have been left penniless, and have become a burden on the state.
