Tlic* first ‘of twenty-eight Westland Wapiti air planes destined L> provide Australia with a fine up-to-date air fleet, was christened by Lady Ryric at Westland Aircraft works. Ycovill. , The first six will he tried out, dismantled and shipped to Australia within a fortnight. The remainder for completing; the fleet in May or June. Westland works are employing a thousand skilled men, solely on aircraft. Ihe present output is four Wapitis weekly. The Australian machines are specially constructed off composite wood and duralumin, which means a lower initial cost and lower maintenance ns well asproviding an intermediate step in the change over from wooden to all-metal, in which Australian workers at present are not schooled.
