COAL PRICES
OUT TO REGAIN TRADE. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, Feb. 20. The N.S.AW Premier, Mr Bavin, returned to Sydney to-day from Canberra, where be discussed the coal position with Prime Minister Bruce, who has agreed to renew the. Commonwealth offer of a bounty of one shilling a ton on all coal exported from New South AYales. Air Bavin added that the State Government’s original offer of a reduction in rail freights on coal still stood. This, with the employees’ reduction of a shilling in wages, should enable the employers further to reduce the price of coal by four or five shillings per ton, and the industry should soon be rehabilitated. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the offer would be accepted promptly.
