WELLINGTON. Feb. 21
In ail interview, l)r Sampson Handley, a rancor authority, said if Now Zealand took the initiative id forming a branch of tiie British Umpire Cancer Campaign, he would feel his visit had not boon in vain. It had boon reported to him that in the opinion of certain people- here it was not worth Now Zealand’s while spending any money on cancer research. He entirely disagreed as he thought New Zealand could do something to forward the movement, some thing to help itself and in so doing help them at Home. The message he wished to leave behind was one of hopefulness and he asked that the problem be faced with courage aiid commonseusc. MEDICAL CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, Feb. 21. After a paper was read at a section of the Medical Conference yesterday, bv Sir J. W. Parrott, of Melbourne, on visiual standards in railwaymen and mariners, it was unanimously resolved that the present standard should lie maintained, and that the lowering of it would he dangerous on account of the increasing speed of steamers.
